Cristal d’Arques—also known as Cristal d’Arques Paris—was introduced in 1968 by Jacques Durand as part of the family’s long-established glassmaking business in Arques, France . It was a game‑changer in the glassware industry—pioneering automated production of genuine lead crystal at an accessible price point .
From the 1930s onward, the company underwent industrial expansion, especially after WWII, leveraging American-style furnace and pressing technologies. By 1968, they had fully mechanized stemware production—a significant innovation in the market . Over succeeding decades, Cristal d’Arques released a variety of elegant collections such as Versailles, Pompadour, Rambouillet, and notably Longchamp in 1979 .
