For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferro rod. But due to this rock's rare large size and shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a large spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone.
Total weight is approximately 5 pounds 6.3 ounces. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly pentagonal like a crude tomahawk. Its edges measures approximately 4.5 x 2.5 x 5 x 4 x 2.5 . It is approximately 3.5 thick at its thickest.
This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way. Because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures. Some are visible on the surface (see photos).
