The plate commemorates the Pioneer Zephyr, a revolutionary diesel-powered, stainless-steel streamlined train built by the Budd Company for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad.
It debuted in 1934 and generated immense public interest, helping to revive interest in rail travel during the Great Depression. The train was known for its sleek, aerodynamic design and impressive speed, averaging over 77 mph on a special run from Denver to Chicago.
