Supplemental heat can be provided using a heat mat or heat lamp. Housing and Humidity Although Red Runner Roaches can survive at lower room humidity, they thrive best in the 60–70% humidity range. A minimum of 50% humidity is recommended. Keep coconut fiber or similar bedding slightly damp and mist the enclosure regularly to maintain humidity. Feeding Provide a small food and water dish at all times. Use a quality dry roach diet as a staple, supplemented several times per week with fresh fruits and vegetables, including: Bananas, carrots, lettuce, oak leaves, oatmeal, orange slices, pearl barley, potatoes, peaches, and plums. Enclosure Red Runner Roaches should be housed in a relatively small enclosure, as they tend to breed best when kept slightly crowded. This also keeps them close to food and water sources. Egg cartons work well as interior structure, though substrate can also be used. Placing a heat mat under the back half of the enclosure is recommended.
